Cadillac is coming up with new and improved models to entice new drivers along with keeping current ones happy.  There is everything from sporty coupes to large luxury SUVs with the Cadillac badge to appeal to all different needs behind the wheel.  For drivers who enjoy the more “typical” Cadillac design we’ve seen through the years, perhaps the 2011 STS is the sedan for them to drive? 

New Engines

Some STS models in previous years were fitted with V8 engines.  Now, with the 2011 STS, all the engine choices across the trims come with a V6.  We’re not sacrificing power, though, by saying good-bye to V8′s, but saying yes to better gas mileage and V6 engines with plenty of power.  Sounds like a good thing to us.  We even have a few STS models in the Chicago Cadillac used cars inventory found here at Patrick Cadillac.  These models all come with V6′s as part of the powertrain, so you can get a feel for what is standard across the board for 2011.

The Slant 45 project currently has over 13,000 students over 42 schools participating in the North Texas region where the Super Bowl will be held.  These students have been helping with community projects such as cleaning up neighborhoods, collecting and distributing toiletries to homeless people, and removing graffiti from area buildings.  It’s very important for children to learn that others are not always as fortunate and that the environment around them must be cared for in a positive way.  The children involved are also producing art to be displayed in the area, such as at the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport.

An exec for Cadillac says that the future of Cadillac cars may involve models that are virtually crash-proof and will be able to operate themselves, by communicating clearly with traffic signals and other autos on the road.  To make this work, thorough testing and development will need to be done.  But, with technology changing and advancing every day, anything is possible!

Other systems are currently being developed to make your Chicago SRX and other Cadillac models as safe as they can be.  Some examples are lane departure warning, blind-spot alert systems, and adaptive cruise control systems.  Some companies have already installed these similar systems in their 2011 models, so we’ll be watching closely to see how effective they are.

A blind-spot alert system would forbid a car from going into another lane or attempting to change lanes if another auto is coming too close.   An adaptive cruise control system would operate by detecting upcoming obstacles and automatically slowing the Chicago DTS down if it detects that the driver would not react in time.  Admit it or not, we’ve all had times when we space out or don’t pay as close attention as we should while behind the wheel.  Cadillac recognizes this and is working hard to make sure their autos will be as safe as possible.

The IIHS is conducting four-part safety tests on new autos, now that they’ve added a roof-strength safety test to the roster.  A sturdy and well manufactured roof is vital in keeping you safe, should your CTS or other model, such as the Chicago SRX, become involved in a roll-over accident.  Let’s hope you’re never unfortunate enough to go through that!  The 2011 CTS scored the highest rating of “good” for the roof strength test, which is music to Cadillac’s ears.
